Dresden Fire Department Receives New Equipment

The Dresden Volunteer Fire Department recently took delivery of new life safety equipment that was purchased via a grant from FEMA. The department worked with Ohio First Responder Grants LLC and applied for the 2015 AFG (Assistance to Firefighters Grant) for new SCBA’s (self contained breathing apparatus) and was awarded in early July of this year. The grant funded over $225,000 in equipment allowing the  department to purchase 33 SCBA’s, 1 bottle for each, a spare bottle for each, 38 face mask, 38 voice amplifiers for each mask, and a pack tracking device. The new SCBA’s, bottles, and mask replace the department’s current inventory that was over 13 years old and no longer met NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) specification. The pack tracking device is a new addition to the department, this allows firefighters to track downed firefighters in the event of an emergency situation. It will decrease the amount of time that it takes to locate the firefighter in danger and decrease the chance of injury and or death. Dresden Fire is very grateful to have received the grant from FEMA and is proud that we are able to have up to date equipment to serve our community to the best of our ability. All new equipment was placed in service today and is ready to serve the community.

The Dresden Volunteer Fire Department serves the Village of Dresden, Cass Township, Jefferson Township, and Madison Township of Muskingum County, along with Washington Township of Coshocton County. Dresden Fire has 46 members, 18 of which make up the part time staffing crews. The department began paid part time staffing June 1st of this year, we have 2 members on duty from 7am to 7pm 7 days a week, volunteers cover after 7pm and as additional assistance is needed during staffed hours.
